Pouilly-Fumé Sauvignon Blanc
Pouilly-Fumé, Central Vineyards, Loire Valley, France
Light straw in color with a light golden hue.
Fruity nose citrus, lemons green apples, limes, white grapefruits, minerals, light grass, and white pepper.
Light to medium in body, crisp refreshing and smooth, with medium acidity and nice legs.
Dry on the palate with grapefruits, green apples, white pepper, minerals, spices, herbs, light tropical fruits, pineapple and lemon juice.
Long finish with limes.
This is a wonderful aged white from the Loire Valley. Well balanced and enjoyable by itself or with food. Showing great complexity and a great mouthfeel.
This 21 year old is nicely balanced and so so good. Still crisp and engaging.
Way better after 30 minutes of airtime. What a great evolution on this wine. Right out of the bottle it is unbalanced with gooseberries (cat's pee) nose, which disappears. After an hour, flowers like jasmine come in on the nose.
I paired it with a few appetizers escargot, smoked fish and tuna tartar.
12.5% alcohol by volume.

I adore Pouilly-Fumé. It has such a delicate posture yet one which hides a lot of flavour behind it as well, notably citrus fruits giving it a hint of acidity. The age of this wine had caused mould around the cork and slight leakage yet this did not affect (I don't think) the wine's taste in any way.
