Domaine de la Côte Sainte-Epine
Ste Epine l'elégance Saint-Joseph Syrah
St. Joseph, Northern Rhône, Rhône, France

Unreal, as usual. Beautiful purity, elegance and balance. Consistently excellent.

Needed about 90 minutes to fully wake up, but once it did, wow. The nose turned beautifully Northern Rhône: black olive, black pepper, smoked meat, dark fruit. Palate is sappy, meaty, and full of that old-vine granite intensity this cuvée always carries so well. Big tannins, but ripe and beautifully balanced by the fruit and texture. At 12.5%, this has incredible energy and purity. Feels like 2016 crossed with 2021 in the best possible way. Spectacular wine and a huge sign for the potential of 2024 Northern Rhône.

Just fantastic as always. Needed a glass with a late dinner. Just wow. So clean and juicy and unreal density and old vine sap. Unreal energy and freshness. Tannins ripe but substantial. Nose is granite and blackberry and flowers and meat and olives. Glorious.

Sep 19th, 2024Quite delicious and an excellent value. More accessible than I thought it would be, even with no decant. Great dark fruit, some olive, nice balanced tannins, and good lifting acid. Nice wine.
