Good wine needs to be tasty young. It was austere and closed young, it still is. I never liked this producer the wines are unappealing. Don’t understand why I ever bought two vintages of this, my bad. Avoid. Neal Martin got this one wrong.

Massive tannin and structure. Fermented with stems. This needs to be aged before reaching its peak.

The 2010 Pommard Clos des Epenots 1er Cru has a detailed, mineral-driven bouquet with cranberry, strawberry, sage and oregano that develops more intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied, finely balanced with a grippy and quite dense finish. This is a true Pommard, a little austere but with such freshness and tension. I can envisage this meliorating over the next decade. (Neal Martin, Vinous, July 2018)

Pommard’s drink so well young yet with a modest decant sheds fruit and shows horsepower and finesse. Drinks like a Grand Cru.
