Domaine Bernard Gripa
Cuvée Le Berceau St. Joseph Syrah
Serious brett at first. Like stanky stable. But… lo and behold, a truly beautiful wine emerges after a few hrs. So traditional but rustic in an elegant way that defies words. Round, herbal, complex and lovely. Drinking so well now. 9.4… 9.5?

Jan 18th, 2022Day 2 notes as day 1 it was an end of the night open and it needed 24 hours to really show. Nose is all black fruits, tiny bit of horse, granite, meat, earth, herbs, licorice. Feral. Dense gamey olives as well. Complex aromas. Palate has insane freshness and purity. So clean and straight as an arrow with great acids blackberry fruit and complex stoniness on the finish. Compact, long and balanced. Way more upside here.

May 11th, 2018So young but for my money it's hard to find a better St. Joseph. Yes this is easily on Gonon level, but different like Rousseau and Roumier are. It's a dark color. Almost black. Stunning nose of crushed granite, fresh underbrush, black fruits, minerals galore, leather and so much more. Nuanced and complex as great St. Joseph can be. The palate is deep with big black fruits, significant ripe and sweet tannin and a long juicy finish. This is obviously young but has all the parts to be one of the best wines of the vintage as the finish lingers for a long time which hints at a very long future. Will update as it aerates. Sick for now.
AFTER 5 HOURS -The nose is like a big drop of blackberry juice combined with super granite tones some herbs. Really complex. The palate is epic. Huge fruit, great freshness, firm tannins. Gets very nook and cranny. Needs 5 years.

Wow. Syrah. Nose is dank, sinewy and wild. Very pretty fruit. Stanky nose. I really dig this. Almost Burgundian aromas. Noble. Palate is unbelievable. Soft yet so deep with finely grained almost painted on tannins. Ridiculous. My only bottle but more to come I hope! Magic.
