Destiny Bay
Mystae Waiheke Island Red Bordeaux Blend
WOTN at a recent wine dinner with friends. Cab/Bordeaux blends from around the world... and this New Zealander was by far the furthest afield amid a number of Napa Cabs. It was one hell of a ringer.
The wine is concentrated and intense yet incredibly smooth. The Franc element really comes through adding intrigue and sophistication. Blackberries, leather and cloves with a touch of vanilla from the oak all combine. Generous and long on the finish.
The group could hardly believe that this was a Kiwi wine. Interestingly it's made by an American in New Zealand, @Sean Spratt at their gorgeous hobbit-shire like estate.

Love it. Let breathe for 45 min before drinking for perfection

1 person found it helpfulNov 25th, 2017A rare beast indeed, this Bordeaux style blend - from New Zealand! 55% Cab Sauv, 26% Merlot, 11% Cab Franc, 6%Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot - it's quite a crowded field.
Nonetheless, this is a great wine and '07 is just about ready for drinking.
Cedar wood and forest fruits on the nose; with a strong red fruit palette followed by wood and herbs and a long, consistent finish.
An absolute treat for Sunday roast, or a rainy Sunday afternoon!
