To me the best part of Mencia is its tendency to aromatically possess a richer and riper fruit character on the nose, but then on the palate a juxtaposition to tart, brambly fruit thats crisp and always contains a certain vitality to it. Balanced extract here, mineral tannins and acidic cut typical of schist soils, but there’s a little extra plumpness that’s really appealing too. Points for the price of course

Lovely Bierzo. Very fresh and mineral quality with crunchy red fruit, mint and savory spices. Very well balanced and simply delicious.

Nice red fruit flavors combined with pepper. A lighter wine that goes well with sharp cheese. Surprisingly better than the more expensive Villa de Corullon also sold by Palacios.

My first taste of the Mencia grape. Quite nice. Decent balance.

My first time trying a Bierzo. #35 on Wine Spectator Top 100 list for 2018. Not my favorite varietal. A little too tannic for my palate.

Blackberry, mullberry, blueberry, unburnt sweet pipe tobacco, red meat, graphite, apple, touch vegetale. Vanilla. Equally brauny forces of acid and tannin.

This could have sat decanted like 5 hours before driving. Also, 3 or more years. Wow I just feel like this wine would be spectacular 4 or 5 years down the road... Too bad I'm not with my cellar.

Blind tasting I'd for sure call this super young new world-ish Bordeaux... But with med + acid... Aka Mencía??

Complex as F.

Always a complex little grape. Medium bodied - dry wine. Tart strawberries. Still pretty tight - 2016 should have aged a bit longer.
