The '09 is all about big black cherry on the nose along with notes of anise, steak sauce and sous bois. Savory on the palate with fine tannins and light anise on the long finish. Very rich. Would like to revisit in 5-10 years. From Rutherford Ava

Still drinking great after 11 years. I do miss these wines (although Gerhard is producing some terrific wines under his new lable, Reisacher Estate).

2008-Great with lasagna; cassis, slightly alcoholic bouquet; great legs; medium body; long, slightly tannic, slightly white pepper finish; tastes like a nicely aged Napa cab.

I don't recall what vintage I had, previously, but I recall being more impressed. Don't get me wrong - this was good - just not great.

Also consumed a few weeks ago, Gerhard Reisacher was really hitting it out of the park with his wines from the early 2000s. This one was still going strong (although I suspect it's a bit past peak). Just a hint of amber on the rim, the wine is exhibiting plenty of fruit along with secondary aromas of leather and dried cassis. Started to fade toward the end of the bottle, but just a terrific example of a cab from the Rutherford bench.

Nice nuances. Made me think a little while drinking. Typical Delectus. Nice job.

Another 2001 cabernet - figured it would be a nice comparison with the 2001 Caymus from last night. The 2001 Delectus Sacrashe Vineyard cab is remarkably youthful for a 14-year-old wine. Was actually more intense initially than the Caymus, but fell off more rapidly in the glass. A good wine, but didn't quite have the depth of the Caymus. A bit one-dimensional by the end, whereas the Caymus still exhibited terrific layers of flavor. Interesting comparison...but this is still a good wine!

Not a bad wine, but nowhere close to some of the other vintages, such as the '03 or '05
