“Made from a blend of all Del Dotto’s vineyard holdings, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon The Beast’s black/purple color is followed by a wine with off-the-charts richness, incredible density and abundant notes of black currant liqueur, blackberries, graphite, licorice, truffles and incense. This is another candidate for perfection. Full, dense and concentrated with no heaviness or astringency, it is a seamless, well-integrated Cabernet to drink over the next 25 years.”

2012 Del Dotto The Beast. A special occasion purchase having tasted it in barrel. A reminder of how far my palate has evolved away from high alcohol heavily oaked Napa red. Still nice, but the 15.8% and sweet oak dominates. All the complexities of the various sites (the whole concept of this wine) is lost imho. I want more earth, mineral, and acidity to remain.

Great compliment to our filet and baked potatoes. Dark cassis on the nose. Sharp tannin with medium length. A bit of tobacco on the tongue and not as complex as expected. But it is a very good bottle of Napa Cab. I think a bit more time in the bottle will add to the quality of this vintage. Overall I enjoyed the Beast.
