Cline Cellars
Ancient Vines Contra Costa County Zinfandel
Dark purple in color with a wide reddish rim.
Fruity nose of blueberries, sweet cherries, strawberries, raspberries, light vanilla, milk chocolates, tobacco and black pepper.
Full bodied with medium plus acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with raspberries, strawberries, black plums, wood, spices, peppercorn, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, light vegetables and pencil lead.
Short finish with round tannins and tangy cranberries.
This is a simple California Zinfandel. Spicy and tangy and not as sweet as I thought it would be, which is good. Not fully balanced, but still enjoyable even by itself.
Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up. Tannins show up after 45 minutes of airtime.
A good mid week red for a good price. I had it all by itself by the lake, with a nice view. Relaxing.
15% alcohol by volume.
86 points.
$14.

Another nice product from Cline. This is a very smooth, but not overly complex zin. I definitely get subtle hints of strawberries and can see drinking it with a Texas style smoked brisket or tri-tip with a coffee rub. I would be having it with one now but it’s in the high teens yesterday and today lol.

Oct 24th, 2021Smooth and plummy with resolved tannins. Nice flavors but a single note. Mind you it is a pleasant one.
