I'd say there are better ways of discovering a great wine than choosing the one used in some YouTube video comparing different brands of wine glasses. But then I would have missed out on this Pomerol, considered by some one of the best values of the region. 100% Merlot with a short stint in new oak, this showed wonderfully rich blueberries, cocoa-dusted roasted red plums, and vanilla-scented mocha balanced by a refreshing herbal side of toasted fennel and fresh mint. Plenty of sweet and luscious tannins, alcohol, and a weighty body were complemented by refreshing acidity. FYI this took an hour to open up and show itself, but when it did, it did. I'd love to see this in 10 more years. 2000 vintage.
