Château Saint-Georges
St. Georges-St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend
It is time for #MerlotThursday! Here is a nice one from Saint Emilion.
Dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim.
Fruity nose with black currants, blackberries, cherries, vanilla, earth, cedar, leather, bell pepper, licorice, black pepper, spices, wet leaves, vegetables, pencil lead, tobacco, coffee and chocolates.
Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with black currants, black cherries, cedar, earth, vanilla, leather, tobacco, chocolates, bell pepper, bitter vegetables, dark coffee, bitter herbs, pencil lead and peppercorn.
Long finish with firm tannins and tangy cranberries.
This is a great Merlot based blend from Bordeaux. Showing nice complexity and mouthfeel. Not fully balanced yet, and needs many years in the bottle to mature properly.
This is from a great vintage and still young, but already drinkable with lots of fruits.
Good right out of the bottle and gets earthier and austere after a couple of hours in a decanter.
A blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels.
14.5 % alcohol by volume.
92 points.
$60.

Big, dark, and brooding, but opened up beautifully with forest floor and funk. Balanced and delicious!!

Oct 10th, 2017Chewy plum and blackberry compote with some chalky minerality. Dark chocolate too. Oaky and approachable now and should get better with some time.

1 person found it helpfulMar 5th, 2015In Magnum and 89 vintage but bit stuck and dumb. Opened a bit but needs to paired with lighter meal than the Moroccan feast we had at El Mansour.

Sep 11th, 2016Clear deep Ruby with notes of blackcurrant, cassis and vanilla oak spice - still developing. Dry and medium bodied with black fruits and mocha, finishing with grippy tannins. Could drink now or put down for further ageing.
