Dark fruits, crushed and polished rocks, incense, licorice, and creamy oak. The best value in wine.

If this were a $60-$80 Chateauneuf, it would be one of the better ones.

If you were down to your last $30, my recommendation would be to buy and drink this wine. Well, first you should ask if the 2013 is available, but you could have worse problems than having to settle for the 2014, like only having $30, but I digress. Opens with same familiar voice: burning incense, lavender, and dark bramble fruit. Noticing a more pungent earth and wet stone nuance than the last bottle. Explosive, ripe black raspberry fruit on the palate is tempered by the bitter cocoa and sea salt. There's some captivating secondary fig or truffle there, but I can't quite put my finger on it. Inspiring.

Here we go again! An inky and polished shade of aubergine. Perfumed incense, lavender oil, crushed rock, wild blackberry and black raspberry preserves, a darker than usual milk chocolate and some orange peel potpourri which seals the deal for me. The mouthfeel evokes silk and cream allowing it to decadently glide on and on. This is the type of wine that could be "the wine" for a newb.

So rich, so complex, and so layered. Creme de cassis, tobacco, incense, crushed rocks, grilled meats, and heaps of blackberry, blueberry, and raspberry.
