Château Peyrou
Red Bordeaux Blend
2008 vintage. Catherine Papon-Nouvel produces excellent organic wines (also at her three Saint-Emilion estates Gaillard, Clos Saint Julien and Petit Gravet Aîné) and I consider Peyrou 2016 one of the best values in Bordeaux. Therefore I was very happy to find a bottle of 2008 to see the ageing potential, and it was a pleasant surprise. Fully mature, but by no means tired. Even if the tannins are a little rustic (rather typical for the vintage) and it could do with more length, this is great value at 13 euros and a strong case for the ageing potential of Côtes du Castillon wines.

Sep 8th, 2020Small wine producer from the left bank of Bordeaux. Cabernet predominant with some merlot. A heavy but well balanced and structured. Dark fruit as you would expect, with a great finish of tobacco, peppers, cloves and mature acidity (despite the young age). Definitely worth trying.

Jul 8th, 20162011 vintage. With my wife. We decanted the wine for one hour before we poured the first glasses and followed its development over a period of another three hours. It was medium to dark ruby, almost purple in colour and offered cherry, blackberry, plum, pencil shaving, cedar, tobacco, spices, liquorice, vanilla and some coconut on the nose. On the palate the medium-bodied wine showed cherry, blackberry, plum, cedar, tobacco and some chocolate, paired with medium-level acidity, medium-level tannin and good length. A solid, medium-bodied, medium-complex, balanced Bordeaux that kept improving with air. We liked it. Good QPR. 88
