My last bottle of 2001. It was in peak form with another 5-7 years ahead.

When you buy upon release, you get that it is a pretty good wine but, young, it is still astringent and earthy. However, when you cellar it for 17 years, it blossoms into soft, creamy, velvety expression of balance and elegance. The best part is, it was $25. I’ve had some expensive wines that were not this enjoyable.

The fruits were beautifully ripe; blackberries, dark cherries, black raspberries and showing nice blue fruits. The evolution softened, the earth and gave it amazing integration. Soft tobacco tones and leather, most clay, top soil, stones, anise, a little dry brush, beautiful, round near perfect acidity and a creamy, lush, round, creamy finish that sings on the palate. Nice pair with our New York Strips. 🥩

Steak and claret night was on tonight! Cinnamon cooked up a storm, and the cool curranty fruit of this 14 year old Bordeaux was the perfect companion to the rich, dry aged ribeye.

Why didn't I buy two cases of this effortless, silky claret?! Great with Shepard's pie and peas.

This is the biggest single bottle variation I've experienced. Last weekend a 9.3. Big lush ripe dark fruits. Tonight, all mid red fruits and earth. Both paired well with the steak but last weekend the better experience.

Consistly one of the top values in Bordeaux. This 01 is over delivering the vintage and my expectation. Rich dark cassis. Ripe blackberries, blueberries, strawberries paint the background. Rich wet dark earth, black tea, velvety leather, nice baking spices and a long rich elegant finish. It's hit it's stride with even better evolution ahead. Just got a wave of warm chocolate fudge brownie with raspberries.

I have two complaints about this wine- it doesn't come in liter bottles and I only have two bottles left out of my case. Drinking this with prime top sirloin left me wanting for nothing... Except for more of the same!

Steak & claret Friday! This is the most reliable, value wine I have ever bought for the home cellar... I should have bought a 2nd case. It has great power and dark currant fruit, savory intrigue, developed texture and excellent acid. What else could I ask for? Another box!

A fine value in claret! Expressive, integrated and well balanced- where is my skirt steak?
