This was the mystery wine at the Downs Club Committee dinner on Wednesday night and I was a long way from picking it. I don’t want this to sound snooty but I rarely drink Cotes de Bordeaux and on this showing I should be. Merlot dominant medium bodied with red fruits, a touch of tobacco and grainy tannins. Incredible QPR - can be bought for $30 in Australia.

A veggie wine, pyrazene, stems and leaves, mushroom, crushed stones, barn yard, tart red cherries and cranberry, blackberries, medium plus concentration and staining. Medium plus to elevated acidity and alcohol. Elevated coarse tannins.

No idea when or where I got this wine. It's been stored properly, and has no off flavors. But it's also not aged into anything too impressive. I'm still recovering from being sick so some of the flavor nuance is lacking, but it's very smooth, round, with thick legs. It's very dry, but not astringent. It took forever to open up, but once it did I got both red and dark fruit on the nose. Beyond that my palate is too off to detect. I'd drink another bottle, though.

Decent wine that would probably be much better if it wasn’t sitting in the sun all day and drunk out of a Walmart cup while sitting alone to a dinner of plain corn nuts and beef jerky.
