Château Laffitte-Teston
Reflet du Terroir Madiran Tannat Blend
Madiran is such an underrated wine region in France in my opinion. This is a 9 USD wine (in equivalent local currency, probably even cheaper back home).
There is everything you like from a Bordeaux right bank with a twist to it. Red currant, cherry, leather, a bit of tar, a bit of chocolate, a bit of mint. Wow this is great. The palate is a bit more acid driven than what a right bank bordeaux could be, but there is some bright red fruit in there, there are some dusty, rustic tannins in the rear, powering a very long, fruity, tannic finish with a a tiny umami twist to it. This is really punching way above its league from a price tag perspective.

Cherry, chocolate, an earthy thing and a bit of menthol too. Nice nose. The palate shows a strong acid backbone, some nice cherry notes all along. It's rather thin and long and lacks a bit of depth and matter which you can find in Brumont's wines. Drying tannins kick off a long fruity finish. This is well done, overall satisfying but not as good as what this terroir can produce. Served with roasted duck and pumpkin risotto. Very good pairing.
