Consider me duped here. I’m a sucker for small production runs because really, that’s where you’d likely find the soul of wine. But I should have known - if you’re slapping numbered bottles on a label, there’s a strong possibility that you’re trying to boost the content’s quality beyond what it’s worth. In this bottle’s defence, the price was too good to warrant the limited production, but I was optimistic (could have been a dark horse). Honestly, it was decent. Drinkable. GC said it was like Ribena. All “sweet” and fruity, with strong cassis notes, some spice if you dig deep, and quite silky in body. It just lacked complexity… distinction… soul.
NB: Apparently made from old-vine Merlot, so it may be another case of less-than-ideal cold chain stripping complexity, even though there’s proper clarity in the fruit and no heat stroke-related notes.
