Satdurday night and I have opened the 2012 Château Desclau, a Bordeaux Supérieur. A blend of 43%Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23%Cabernet Franc, 7% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot. I was in Fayetteville, Arkansas for Thanksgiving and I went to the closest Liquor store to our hotel to pick up a couple bottles of wine and the did not have much of a selection. The only Bordeaux they had on the shelf was the one I am reviewing tonight. I didn't get a chance to open it while in Arkansas so I brought it home with me to Indiana.

On the nose I receive black cherry, blackberry, black currant, black pepper, licorice, spice, heavy toasted oak and earth.

On the palate I can detect black cherry, blackberry, black currant, licorice, tar, heavy charred oak, bell pepper and earth.

This wine is medium to full bodied with medium acidity, medium tannins and a medium black fruit oaky finish. I hope everyone's Thanksgiving was spent with family enjoying each other. Have a great rest of your weekend and stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷

Nice value BDX with some age for around $15. Showing some brick red on the rim. Took about 15-20 minutes in the glass with aeration to start showing its brighter aromas of dried cherry, dried plum, and violet. A lot of “grandpa’s study” throughout - graphite, old leather, tobacco smoke, cedar, incense; as well as black pepper, potting soil, and gravel. Slightly bitter with very little fruit on the palate. Quite drying. Med+ tannin, med- acid, medium finish. There’s a decent amount going on here for the price. Enjoyed a glass or two on three consecutive nights, and it held up great, benefitting from the extra oxygen.

Not very concentrated or complex. Blackberries and tobacco on the nose with a more enjoyable palate. Tannins have definitely smoothed out over time, but are easily detected.

Aged really well. Aniseed, well developed body, cherry. Packed with flavor. Great mineral aftertaste. Tannins smoothed out nicely.

Value Right Bank Bordeaux blend. 40% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, with Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Blackberry fruit, barnyard, forest floor. Not overly complex. Nice everyday Bordeaux.

The 2008 has an interesting palate. First flavor is fruity with a nice fullness to it. Slowly it transcends to tobacco and black pepper. Moderately lingering aftertaste which is a bit acidic.

A little tart, a little tannic, little flavor. A little late?

Fell in love with this wine! Color is pretty dark but taste is so well balanced-sweetness, bitterness, body... Can't describe any further but fantastic.
