Château de Grand Pré
Fleurie Gamay
Is #FleurieFriday a thing? If not, perhaps it should be. This particular bottle is made for easy sipping. Round fruit and not very complex. It’s a perfect way to wipe off the week’s stress before jumping into the weekend.

Jul 14th, 2018Dangggg this is not quite what in expect and/or want from a typical Fleurie. It IS what I expect of a natural wine from Fleurie. Notice I don't say want. I like the floral and bordering on candy-without-sweetness of the Fleuries that introduced me to cru Beaujolais. But it is good. On the nose, until it has some opening time, there is so much oil you think you are smelling a white like a Rheingau Riesling. But no. In the tongue you get a mish-mash of red cherry, earth, poblano pepper and a wicked bash of acid and alcohol that make you exclaim "oh shit I should have waited a few years because the flavor is muted by harsh alcohol and acid (though next to zip tannins)!" The average cab franc loving hipster would drink the hell out of it now. I WILL try more of this producer in the coming years I hope. It is evolving by the minute in my glass. Can't wait to see if the years help.

Jan 24th, 2017Evening of 30+ year old Beaujolais (why not?)! This was the weakest of the three - the petrolly overtones faded but sadly, so did the fruit. It was still pleasant for a while; full of rusty iron and soil, but the drinking window was quite short (30 mins) before it turned...

Oct 16th, 2015I love the funk as much as anyone, but this bottle was either corked or James Brown-level funky.
