Château Clarke
Listrac-Médoc Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon

10 years in and just starting to get good. Great, affordable bdx that ages.

Another wine suffering from "Heat Stroke Limbo", a term I'll use from now on to describe the state where the fruit characters of a wine has not been completely "cooked" through by heat, yet is completely devoid of distinction or further complexity. Of course, wines can be affected by heat stroke limbo in varying degrees, whereby those less affected offer more complexity and consequently, joy. In the case here, I'm inclined to believe that it leans more towards the side of joy - clearly concentrated, with occasional glimpses to it's fresher side, and still offering spice, menthol, leather, and tobacco nuances. I'll refrain from describing the sad elements, but trust me when I say heat stroke limbo's a chronic disease for wines in Malaysia.

More fruit than expected. Drinking well at 10 years old.

Very enjoyable drinking with leather, spice and dark fruit. As a general comment, 2012 really does seem like the vintage to be drinking right now.

A ripe, fruit forward wine that is midweight and enjoyable.

I recently tried a handful of wines from Edmond de Rothschild's Chateau Clarke, which is in Listrac in the Southern Medoc. The 2015 was the choice of the bunch. Apparently there has been quite a bit of work going on at the estate to upgrade facilities and processes. I can believe this. The 2015 is attractive with mocha and tobacco. Nicely balanced and a silky structure. Good now and for a while yet.
