Chalone Vineyard
Estate Bottled Chalone Pinot Blanc
Bright light gold, no brown. More like semillion than chardonnay, and nothing at all like Alsatian pinot blanc. Good texture, but not strong on flavor until the end when a pronounced and pleasing pear taste lingers. Good with squash and corn soup, but better with hummus on chips. It comes in both a regular and a reserve version, with the reserve usually somewhat richer. Chalone pinot blanc has to be one of California's longest-lived dry whites. In my experience, it's best at around 15 years, but capable of lasting 30 or more.
