Earthy nose with blueberries, cherries, beef jerky, vinaigrette, forest floor, tobacco leaf, spices, graphite, bitter herbs, bell pepper, wet cave, vegetables and black pepper.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity, soft and smooth.
Dry on the palate with blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, wood, spices, light vanilla, vegetables, tobacco, black pepper, spices, dark coffee, pencil lead, earth and leather.
Long finish with firm tannins and tangy cranberries.
This is a nice surprise. A very enjoyable red wine from Portugal. Not fully balanced any longer, but this 35 year old is still drinking nicely. Showing great complexity and a big and elegant mouthfeel.
Needs an hour to open up properly. As it opens up, tannins come in, and surprisingly, are very firm. Definitely over its prime, but still drinking nicely.
What a great experience.
I paired it with a steak sandwich and steamed vegetables.
