Margariat Saint-Joseph Syrah
For me the current best wine in St. Joseph. Just a stunning stunning expression of St. Jo. Nose is insane. The most detailed olives ever. Just gorgeous. Also herbs de Provence and so much granitic intensity. Also dark flowers. Dark blueberry fruit and dark berry fruit. Just so deep, intense and utterly brilliant. I love this wine. Wow that palate. So so elegant and juicy and with achingly beautiful finesse. My god this is so delicate and I am sorry but this has more elegance than. Gonon. Just wow. The concentration is off the charts and my goodness the inner mouth olive flavors intermingled with wild mint are to die for. Unreal refined and classy tannins and is juicy, balanced and perfect. Wow. Can’t wait to see what air does. 9.8 for now. With some short term air the nose is just crazy. So complex and floral. So sleek and juicy and man those tannins are all class. The quality of the fruit is exquisite!

Aug 20th, 2024So brilliant but man is this young, albeit less young than normal. Insane nose with the most vivid olives and complexity. So elegant and long on the palate but starts out tannins then gets less tannic and melty. Needs 5 years.

Nov 7th, 2023My weakest bottle of 18 but still stellar. Will post more notes later today for Day 2 as I think it will be better today.

Dec 24th, 2022Just wow. Nose is mega black and green olive. Just stunning. So much granite and blackberry fruit. Vivid and refined. Wow. 9.8 nose. Palate is massively concentrated and the finish has so much energy and granite. Violets throughout and top top finesse. Formidable structure as well but this is the most exciting wine in St. Jo. Bar none. Wow.

Sep 18th, 2022Stunning. So elegant. So aromatic. So pure. Meaty, granite, deep. Closed after 2 hours. But the length. Bright. Length. Brilliant.
Opened up against after 4 hours. Divine violets. Stunning structure here. Minutes finish. A force of a st. Joseph. 9.6 to 9.7. There is so much granite after 4 hours. But tomorrow the fireworks really start.

Nose is all game, meat and feral St. Joseph aromas. So different than the stoney regular cuvee. Beautiful and classy. A step up. Florals and high toned and unreal, precise and expansive blackberry fruit. Gorgeous menthol and spice on the nose. Just intense and dizzying aromas. 9.5 aromas. Wow. What a palate. Insanely juicy and so deep with just terrific cut. This is a briliant new find. There is real substance and cut here. Awesome palate. Shows exceptional class and refinement. Terrific freshness and sweetness allied with insane granitic cut. Just so so long. This is a revelation. So so delicious. Big structure. This is a 20 year wine. Reminds me a bit of Fauterie st. Joseph Le combaud. Wow. As this airs out it gets more stoney and just so much more precise. So great. Unreal fruit and depth. Magical stuff. Keeps getting more elegant and defined.
Big time update. Amazing length, texture and grip. Takes over your mouth. Unreal fruit and purity. Just a masterpiece. Takes on so much more on day 2. 9.5 to 9.6.

Prob most balanced wine I’ve had in a while. Odd to lead with that but what popped into my head. Purpley and plummy fruit. Long finish. Exc. 2020

Starts weighty and earthy, but becomes pretty with a few days. Earth, grape, brine, berry. Tannins are grippy and forbidding, actually quite bitter, but then this does have promising seductiveness and finesse.
