What a pleasure it is to taste this three decade old Tuscan icon. Vino da Tavola at the time, Coltassala is now Volpaia’s Gran Selezione bottling. Fully mature with a distinctive patina, it still captivates with a dusty, figgy aroma and classic Sangiovese elegant rusticity.

Notes of cherry, leather, shale. Ultra dry with notes of walnut, cherry and tobacco over the mid palate and finish. Very, very nice Chianti Classico Riserva with 8 to 10 years ahead of it $65

Essential Sangiovese. Beautiful secondary aromas, leather, tart cherry, orange rind and spice. Quite a bit of tannin. Like most good Italian wines - needs food. Perfect with Erin's cioppino.
