Ripe, expressive, but also beautifully restrained, Castellare’s 2011 Chianti Classico is a wine of impeccable balance. Sweet red cherries, plums, spices and tobacco emerge over time, but it is the wine's textural elegance that stands out most. (AG)

Mar 5th, 2016Fantastic everything I want in a Tuscan wine! Nose is phenomenal warm Tuscan countryside, whiff of sweet spice, warm nutmeg, real liquorice and tell-tale macerated cherry. For the UK price, excellent value.

Fairly dark red for a chianti
Balanced but somewhat one-dimensional. Fruity but not a long finish. Little acidity or tartness. Reminds me a bit of Oregonian pinots.
