One of my bottles from my annual WWC hosting.

“Carcavelos is the smallest wine appellation in Portugal and is amongst the rarest of wines. Vinho generoso. Oxidative in character.”

My last of three bottles. Always enjoy opening a birth year bottle around my birthday and these can age indefinitely. Profile wise, this is a bit like an Oloroso + Madeira. The sharp and tangy sherry profile is evident from first smell, and the oxidative notes carry to some toffee and a slightly more rich profile bringing out familiar Madeira notes. The interplay of the tangy and rich toffee is unique and delicious. A fun dessert wine to sit back and enjoy.

Hazy deep amber; pronounced intensity aromas of savory salted nuts, honeyed peaches and apricot, quince paste, wildflower honey; sweet, medium plus acid, high alcohol, full body, pronounced intensity flavors consistent with aromas; extremely rich and concentrated, complex flavors, very special, outstanding

This dessert wine tasted like a pecan pie. It was delicious to pair with chocolate cake donuts at Stillwell’s in Dallas.

Delicious. Fauna said it was really special and they likely wouldn’t be able to get more. Nutty and toasty, not too sweet.

Wow. Deep rich aromas, coffee, plum, celery/root? Hazelnut, molasses.

Brilliant wine! Toasted walnut and vanilla with a hint of orange. Stunning for its age!
