£7 at Tesco -- great price for my first Saint-Emilion, especially with the crazy exchange rates right now. Rich nose: fresh strawberry and oaky chocolate. Strong chalky tannins for a right bank Bordeaux, folding into a buttery finish that is just crying for a well marbled steak. Without something like that the tannins build up crazy strong -- definitely not one to drink by itself, despite rich vegetal red fruit leather flavors, balanced acid, and tasty (if not particularly extended) finish. I'd like to rate it higher, but the tannins would need to be more controlled and the finish longer to get up towards 9. Ignoring the AOC and price, it's an 8.7.
