Breckenridge Winery
Jen Mar Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
Drinking the 2013. A pleasant nose, beautiful dark purple. Full bodied but the tannins don't dry out your palate. Excellent wine.

Jul 31st, 2019Revisiting this burly beast almost a year later and it’s still as it was before: terrific. Impenetrable dark crimson with a little more bricking going on. Vanilla, lavender, a good bit of oak, and blueberries on the nose. At almost eleven years old, this doesn’t remind me so much of a standard Napa Can but rather a nice Bordeaux. The heat from the alcohol has definitely settled down and is presenting some wonderful balance. There’s still some fruit here with layers of blueberries, cherries, and cranberries. Tobacco, coffee, and leather on the palate. This is a wine that’s absolutely singing right now. All hail to Last Bottle. Just like I said a year ago, powerful, ripe fruit, and great structure.

Feb 14th, 2019Deep, dark crimson with just a touch of bricking on the rim. Tobacco, rich dark chocolate, blueberries, vanilla, and some funky spice. Even st ten years on, the fruit is still alive and kicking here. There’s cherries, blackberries, and blueberries on the palate, along with more tobacco and coffee. Plenty of oak to be found but it’s somehow not overoaked like so many of it’s contemporaries. When I think Napa Cab, this is pretty much exactly what I want. Powerful, ripe fruit, and great structure.

Feb 19th, 2018Wouldn't have guessed this to be 11.5 years old except for the color (slight bricking, deep crimson). Fresh strawberries, baked plums, licorice, subtle but fruity. A small amount of tobacco and dusty notes (clay?). A pleasure to drink. It is fun to try a wine with some age on it.
