Deep ruby with sediments. Chewy, prunes, blueberry, sweet salami, stewed spinach.Medium plus acidity, medium sugar, medium plus alcohol. Thought it was a Brunello.

At $20 a bottle, this was an outstanding value. I had the 2005 vintage. Outstanding concentration from those old mencia vines. The 10 years of aging served this wine well, having nicely integrated flavors of black cherry, blackberry, earth, mint, fennel, maybe a hint of green pepper on the finish, which is medium-long.

Inky and dark with a port aspect the massive 15.7% would suggest, but still with warm and lovely fruit at its core. A heavier style mencia, less like a Pinot than a Syrah
