Macán Rioja Tempranillo

A big story with big names behind this wine. Macan is the result of a new partnership between Vega Sicilia and Benjamin de Rothschild born out of a meeting between Pablo Alvarez and Benjamin de Rothschild in 2003. The winery is being built in Rioja, the first move if Vega into the region and the winery is designed to be a monument ;-) The result is un unapproachable wine based on Tempranillo, that needs still a few year to age. My score 86 (better with time?), drink from 2019-2027

Turns out French oak and Rioja are friends. Pretty!

2010 Vintage. Great nose! Black cherry, anise, slate, cassis, lilac, menthol, & cedar with sweet black fruit. The palate is supple and rich. Soft like merlot, but rich and spicy. Plum, boysenberry, cassis, & licorice. This wine finishes soft and sensual, but full.

@ home, more body than a usual Rioja

It could be some error while bottling, but very nice wine even just baby.

Need to age or wake some minutes, Sherry red notes, tender

Dark ruby color, cherries, oak, a bit of spice, velvety tannin, med body, over ripe. Not much structure for a Rioja. Great with food.

Classic Rioja with 100% Tempranillo, the Burgundy of Spain. Very aromatic and rich in smell. Very good, mid to high body and smooth, still developing.

still feeling some oak on the palate but a class act, smooth as silk, full body and this chocolate after taste that goes wonderfully with the tempranillo profile. having the 2010 and fully enjoying it !
