Bodegas Atalaya
Alaya Tierra Garnacha Tintorera
Dark violet. Spice- and smoke-accented aromas of cherry, dark berries, incense and pungent flowers, along with a mocha nuance that builds in the glass. Powerful cherry cola, blueberry, spicecake and bitter chocolate flavors become sweeter and expand slowly with aeration. Closes with lingering spiciness, fine-grained tannins and strong, blue-fruit-driven persistence. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, March 2021)

Popped and poured. It should probably be said that I’m typically not attracted to this style of wine (nearly 16% ABV) but this was undeniably fun and surprisingly interesting to drink. This was a gigantic wine; a veritable shipping container of blue and red fruits, a flash of scorched earth, baking spices, and licorice. Still tannic and the acid is somewhat hidden but present. Long finish. This has been drinking consistently well over the last two years and should continue to do so for the next few years.

May 10th, 2018Really serious stuff! Great structure, intense dark fruit flavors, dusty minerality and massive tannins, framed by licorice and bitter chocolate from the French barrels. This will keep forever.

Completely different. Dark and moody. Luscious and warm. It's like a Tawny that you can drink more easily. There's nothing like it.
