Dec 23rd, 2015Inexpensive Argentinian malbec bought in a remote wine shop north of Poland (about 20 miles away from the Russian border - the kaliningrad territory). It's not great but it's doing the trick for me.
The nose shows cocoa, cafe, sour cherry and some oaky touches too. The nose is actually not bad and pretty consistent with what I expect an Argentinian malbec to smell like. The palate though is rather thin and acid driven, with less matter than what I would expect. There are some nice sour cherry and oaky notes all along and some rather drying tannins in the rear, before a simple dry and cherry finish with a slightly too powerful bitter note in the end. It's a bit too simple and rough around the edges and it lacks the matter I usually enjoy with great Argentinian malbec.
