Color was purplish red with medium-plus intensity. Decanting for about 1 hour before drinking was a good move. The nose was full of black plums, black berries, lilacs, lavender, hanging red meat, beef jerky, sandalwood, and black pepper. It being full bodied, the mouth feel was exactly what I was craving. Acidity was medium and tannins weren't aggressive. Finish was dominated by meat and smoked wood characteristics. The taste of potting soil hit me like an uppercut when taking the first sip. After being patient, however, the beef jerky came out to play in about an hour. The Mourvèdre really did its job in this bottle. While drinking this wine, I kept going back for an unbelievable amount of sniffs. There was something on the nose that was really exotic, and I couldn't put my finger on its characteristics. Probably because I've never been to The Cape Floral Kingdom. Thanks for this one, Dana! Cheers!
