Bernard Faurie
Hermitage Blanc
Quince, greengage plum, dried pineapple and orange peel, spearmint, honey, beeswax, anise, marzipan. Backwards and showing some oxidation at first but a healthy decant helped bring some life and clearer fruit out. A bit more glycerol and waxy character here than the ‘14 opened last year around this time, a touch more straightforward and short. Still enjoyable, wholesome.

Dec 14th, 2021Really enjoyed this, i has some verve and upright posture with vintage and blocked ML providing that. Still has the weight one would expect but a more lifted feel to it. I found a cool element to the character of the wine as a whole too, which really added to the pleasure this brought at the table. Orange peel, white peach, spearmint, green almond, of course minerals and some light parsnip character, but the beautifully was beautifully emphasized here. I could see this turning into something really beautiful in many years time with proper storage.

Dec 7th, 2020Limpid straw. Ripe citrus and orchard fruit aromas show excellent clarity and pick up smoky mineral and honey nuances as the wine opens up. Broad and fleshy on entry, offering juicy nectarine, pear, Meyer lemon and honey flavors that firm up slowly on the back half. Finishes impressively long and silky, with building minerality and a strong snap of ginger that lends spicy bite. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, May 2020)

Old Bernie getting it done! Old Vine Marsanne in 600L barrels is much more interesting than I thought it could be. Intriguing conflux of ripe El Dorado / Freestone Peach with wet stone and complexing minerality. Bracing acid and firm tannin.
