Secret Stones Rockpile Zinfandel
New producer to me. Pretty strong reviews and I can see why. This is not your jammy fruit bomb zin that are super common. Finesse in style but retaining richness in flavor. Reminiscent of Carlisle style zins with higher acidity, lower ABV and encompassing the entire fruit spectrum. Ripe raspberries, blueberries and blackberries accompanied by Mexican vanilla and sandalwood aromatics. Energetic on the palate. Delicious. Thanks for opening, @Jack Thompson .

Jun 6th, 2019Dark inky in color. Very soft, not fruit forward and overly jammy. Tannins are subtle, fruit aged beautifully. 2017 vintage. Paired perfectly with homemade pasta bolognese.

Aug 21st, 2022My FAVORITE region. . . Rockpile Zin still one of the best. Dark berries, must, chalk, very faint licorice on the nose. Some pepper on the mid palate.

May 4th, 2022Potent raspberry and blackberry mix on the nose with pepper and earth/chalk on the palate as well. Another BBQ rib night that needed to pair with a fruity, zippy wine and this fit the bill.

Apr 18th, 2021Shout out to winespies for bringing this bottle to my attention. I’m a Rockpile fan (great, but small, AVA in north Sonoma) and when I saw that Clay Mauritson was one of the winemakers, had to grab this one. Dark berries, both black and Gwen pepper, chalk, earth tones and more come through with this. Tannins were softer than expected. If you haven’t had a Rockpile Zin, try it!

Jan 25th, 2021I started keeping bees a couple of years back so couldn’t resist picking up this wine and what a treat! One of the best zinfandels I’ve enjoyed. A wine to sip and enjoy, complex and refined, grab a bottle to have with close friends!
