First of all, my rating isn't just about Beckmen's Grenache - it's really about Grenache in general. I'm just not that keen on this as a single varietal grape. As part of a GSM blend, absolutely. Solo, not as much (give me The Police, not Sting). End rant.
The nose is a riot of tart, underripe fruit: cranberries, rhubarb, tart cherries and a bit of spicy black pepper and thyme. The palette is almost a straight repeat of the nose, with an interesting Mike & Ike's finish. A bit of time helps soften the wine, as it's almost aggressively tart (expect your face to do some puckering). The quality is undeniable, though. Beckmen has done a superb job here, with echoes of the best S Rhone has to offer.
