Perhaps even a tad brighter and more fruit-focused than the lovely 2015. Florals, bing cherry, blood orange and rhubarb pie seem to be the hallmark aromatic expressions of this vineyard. There’s still the soy/beef jerky umami mid palate component although not as pronounced as the previous vintage. I would still stack this up against a mature Chambolle. Such a superb value. The ideal companion with poke salad and a fairly broad range of other Japanese flavors.

Perhaps the lightest-colored Pinot I’ve poured. Floral, perfumed, light-bodied but with nice acidity and cranberry, rhubarb, blood-orange notes. Some tomato leaf notes, a little green peppercorn. Very subtle, even compared to Burgundy. Spätburgunder has not seen the last of me. Solid QPR. SommSelect.

Reminiscent of good quality Chambolle with a touch more flesh and pliancy. This is stupid good for the price, when I’m old I’ll be bitching about how cheap this was back in the day. High toned, crunchy, deeply earthy and loaded with ripe red/black fruit. The finesse is there. Black cherry, wild strawberry, rhubarb compote, black tea, wildflowers, wet leaves, undergrowth, spice. Again, the elegance coupled with the perfume and harmony this carries really delivers.

Very light colored with delicate structure and juicy acidity- truly made for exotic food. I would love this with sushi, ramen or even Korean BBQ. Excellent Spätburgunder. Classy, elegant wine with a slightly feral, meaty side to it.
