Should have aged this wine for a decade. Forest and ocean mist, limestone quality to the tannin structure. Excellent wine.

This wine was a tight little tannic balled-up fist out of the bottle. It still hadn’t opened up much after half an hour of breathing in the bottle, so I poured it through an aerator to hurry the mellowing process along. I almost never resort to these gizmos (because I’ve found they change the profile of some wines differently from a long decant), but I was in a hurry. Once it opens up, it’s quite pleasant. Pine and sea salt on the nose. Tart strawberries on the front. Once it breathes, the tannic structure softens to become a supple theme that holds the elements of this wine together. Mineral high notes and a hint of blackberries on the finish. This vintage probably has a lot of years left in it. I probably should have waited at least another five years to open this bottle, but I’m an impatient wine drinker.
