Beaulieu Vineyard
Signet Collection Clone 6 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon
Nose has freshly crushed blackberry, dried cherry, pencil shavings, warmed dark chocolate, old leather, dusty dried blueberry, red vines candy and dried loamy soil.
Palate has bold cherry, blackberry and plum (wow!), shaved dark chocolate, dried blackberry and anise. Quite chewy tannins, dense wine, would not have guessed this anything close to 21 years old.
Very long finish, tannins are still holding quite strong, pulled the cork 5h in advance, then decanted 90m...needs more time in the decanter. Holding just beautiful, no substitute for proper storage. Anyone holding this could do so to a 30th birthday without worry.

I think it has held up very well (1999) and still has a surprising amount of focused fruit at its core. A bit of “fruit leather” and licorice, dried flowers, a bit of dust, a touch of vanilla bean, and the tannins are still very much present. It is a soft and elegant Cabernet that took more than hour after decanting to really open up. For some reason, this wine inspires an image of an elderly, but elegant woman with a polished outfit, perfectly coiffed hair, but slightly crooked lipstick. I have respect and appreciation for the effort and the overall package, even though I can see that everything is not absolutely perfect. Still pretty damn amazing. Very enjoyable with a Porterhouse grilled on Mesquite charcoal, red oak, and served with a side of blue cheese coleslaw.

May 25th, 2018Really nice old world style. Purchased at the winery after their retrospective tastings (which I highly recommend). Medium body, lots of leathery tanin left. Muted fruit. Still has a long ways to go.

Dec 27th, 20151/27/18 comp with younger cab. Nose of fruit and acid and balanced palate with medium body and long finish. Nice firm texture yet silky mouth feel. Still got years to go for a cab.
