Time for Merlot Thursday. This time it's a 10 year old Israeli Merlot.

Beautiful color of dark ruby with a wide reddish rim.

Great fruity nose of black currants, blackberries, cherries, figs, licorice, cloves, spices, oak, vanilla, herbs, dark chocolates, earth, green vegetables, coffee, cola, pencil lead and peppercorn.

Full bodied and bold with medium acidity and nice legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, bell pepper, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, earth, cloves, herbs, spices, dark chocolates, coffee and peppercorn.

Long finish with firm tannins and spices.

This is a great Merlot from the Golan Heights Appellation in Israel. Reminds me of a Napa Merlot. Big tannins, nice complexity and a great mouthfeel. Well balanced and enjoyable by itself or with food, like a big piece of steak.

Needs an hour to open up properly, and still has enough juice to last a few more years. Just Delicious.

Aged in oak barrels for 20 months. Unfiltered and kosher.

16.3% alcohol by volume (what?)

90 points.

$65.
