Can character jump from a glass? My visit to the Artur de Barros e Sousa was an experience of history, craft secrets, and the wily wisdom and occasional off color quip of Artur who let us roam his estate in Funchal like his own grandchildren. We tasted wines bottled in our birth year and some Artur could only date by the fact his grandfather had made them. "For a strong boy a raw egg with a splash of Terrantez." Artur advised Natalie. We rolled the caramelized taste of tropical fruits and dried mint around our mouths and felt a pride like we'd been visiting our own grandfather.
