Wow was this a pleasant surprise! Not like most Virginia wines this wine had some body to it. Not too complex but this wine had nice balance of tannins to acidity. Barboursville is probably the best vintner in the Commonwealth. This wine is drinking well and had another 5 to 10 years in it.

Comes across as middle-of-the-road Margaux from a lesser year, which is really much better than it sounds. Leans more old world than new certainly, but without the undrinkability of "serious" Bordeaux when you hit it young. I think this will mature well for 5-15yr but may not have the stuffing to go for 30.

Aroma of chocolate/mocha, leather, and plum. Silky, round, chocolate like taste, with a touch of dryness. Only a tiny touch of sweetness and acidity make room for the dryness and chocolate flavor. In the aftertaste, sweetness and tannins dance in harmony. Intriguing. After 30 minutes of breathing, the wine becomes more sweet, a touch of spice and meaty. Nice.

Strawberry blast as it leaves the sides of tongue. Smoother than 2010.
