Dark ruby in color with a wide brick rim.
Strong nose of red currants, cooked cherries, sweet raspberries, licorice, oak, vanilla, spices, tobacco leaf, vegetables, vinaigrette reduction, earth, peppercorn and leather.
Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with sour cherries, currants, oak, vanilla, cloves, spices, tar, earth, peppercorn, leather, green vegetables, tobacco, coffee, vinaigrette and pencil lead.
Long finish with firm and grippy tannins and tangy raspberries.
The 17-year old barolo is very interesting. Still showing grippy tannins with a great mouthfeel. Feels like an aged Brunello.
Not fully balanced, but very enjoyable even by itself, but better with food.
Needs 2 hours to open up properly and show those big tannins, although it is fruitier after 15 minutes of opening up.
I paired it with meats, cheeses and light appetizers.
14.5% alcohol by volume.
90 points.
$75.
