Alpha Estate
Hedgehog Vineyard Xinomavro
Very high tannins, needs to age in bottle for several years. Stewed tomatoes and tar. Barolo anyone!

Mar 18th, 2018Wanted to love this for the novelty of the rare varietal but it was lacking polish, depth & complexity, but it drank nicely with plenty of red fruit - more tart than ripe, mid weight with sort of equal parts tannins & acid - guess I'm not sure what this wine wanted to be

Jun 11th, 2017Colour: only slightly transparent, opaque overall. Light ruby as hue.
Nose: Black fruit and black olives evident since the attack. Very ripe and concentrated – quite spicy in flavours. Voluptuous black fruit embrace (black berries, black currant, blueberries, raspberries),
concentrated and intense. Blackcurrant leaves and touch of herbaceousness. Quite complex overall.
Palate: Quite firm tannic structure, yet still elegant, slightly warm, good acidity – medium to full in body. Boldly tannic, astringent but not too much. Slightly too bold and heavy after a few sips, but overall
good balance. Nice with meaty food.
(4th October 2016 – The Sampler, Islington - Enomatic)

First time having Greek wine. Fantastic bottle with nice complexity!

Oct 14th, 2016A little reminiscent of neb at times with its aromatics. Only $40 at a restaurant too. Fennel, red cherry, feint rosewater, leather, dried cranberry. Tart cherry palate, great acidity behind it. Nowhere near the tannic presence of the few Xinomavros I have tried.
