Alkoomi
Melaleuca Frankland River Riesling
Pale lemon in colour. Noticeable kerosene on the nose with a little white floral character. On the palate, light weight with medium plus acidity. Very dry. Could be cellared for years more, with all that acid, but how much fruit will be left? HH gave this 95 points and a gold medal back in 2019, cannot see it myself.

Oct 17th, 2021Naomi recently went on a media trip for Taste Great Southern 2019 and one of the stops was the Alkoomi cellar door in Frankland River where she bought this gem for us to enjoy in Sydney!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Melaleuca (pronounced mal-a-lu-ca) Riesling is part of Alkoomi’s premium Icon range and was launched to celebrate 40 years of winemaking. Melaleuca is a type of Australian eucalyptus tree which can be found on the Alkoomi property.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The 2016 is a pale water white colour with a hint of yellow in the glass. Notes of herbs/florals, fresh apples, underlying lemon and a slight hint of petrol come through on the nose. Petrol or kerosene are quiet common descriptors for Rieslings with a bit of age. However in the mouth it’s racy, zippy and 100% refreshing with juicy apples, pear and homemade lemon squash characteristics coming through. It has a delicious depth of flavour which tells you this isn’t your typical Riesling but something rather special.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy! #tcweekdaywine

I have to admit, I'm becoming a total fan-girl for Great Southern Riesling. It's fast becoming one off my top picks when ordering wine out and about.
This GS Riesling is a very special one indeed. It's a brand new release from Alkoomi Wines which has been specially crafted to celebrate 40 years of winemaking (congrats guys!). Sandy & Rod own and operate Alkoomi down in Frankland River and the vines for this 'Melaleuca' were actually planted by Sandy's parents back in 1971! This very monumental vino sells for approximately $34 a bottle.
On the eye it's a brilliant crystal clear silvery yellow colour. On the nose candied lemon, a touch of fresh honey, crisp apples and Spring blossoms entice you in. The palate is like biting into a juicy pear with creamy honeydew melon and a lovely citrus freshness. Absolutely stunning, hands down it's an awesome wine.
