I couldn't resist this 2015 Alkoomi Chardonnay when I spotted it in the bottle-o for $25. Alkoomi are based down in Frankland River in the Great Southern Wine Region. This Chardy spends 9 months in 1 & 2 year old French oak barrels before being bottled.
On the eye it's a yellowy-green colour with minerality, citrus and honeydew melon standing out for me on the nose. The palate is super smooth with hints of nuts, nectarines and grapefruit. It's oaked obviously, but it's definitely not in face. When I taste Chardonnays like this I really wonder how people can diss this grape so much! A beautiful wine!

As you guys probably know, I'm a sucker for a good chardy. So when this new release from Alkoomi showed up in my mailbox, I was just a touch excited to try it! Alkoomi are in the Great Southern wine region of WA and produce some stellar wines.
This 2016 Chardonnay is a glistening silver-yellow colour in the glass. The nose is lovely and creamy with melon, vanilla and a touch of citrus spritz coming through. That creamy texture follows suit on the palate with flavours of honeydew melon, pineapple and refreshing lemon acidity. I'd be interested in seeing how this one develops over the next few years.
