Alioto-Pier Vineyards
Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon
Takes a good 45 mins to open up, but worth the wait. Had the ‘05. Earthy with lots of dried dark fruit (raisins, fig), black currant, pepper. Super smooth, lingering complex finish, tastes like an old world wine. Loved it

Jun 11th, 2018Had this side by side with the 2012 and while my initial sniff and taste raised an eyebrow, the final analysis was over achievement. This wine was spectacular. The 2005 had all kinds of musk on the nose, but it opened up to reveal a gorgeous, medium body Cabernet beauty. This wine needs lots of air before consumption.

I was all excited for this. 10 years old and ready to go. But the tannins still stuck out like a sore thumb. Certainly not integrated.
Meh.

2005, for me, is an unappreciated vintage, given the press 2007, 2010, 2012, 2013 get. Wonderful example of a middle aged Napa cabernet. Incredible value at $30.
