Alfredo Maestro (Bodegas y Viñedos Maestro Tejero)
La Cosa The Thing Moscatel de Alejandría
Very Special thing, this thing. Flows in the glass murky orange and viscous and foamy. Smells heavily of honey, oranges, lemonade and acetone (nail polish remover). Tastes like Fizzies™, only way better.
Had it at Maxim, the new natural wine bar in Berlin-Mitte. Very nice place, and the owner gave us The Thing when we asked for a dessert wine :-) 50+5+14+17+9

And now for something completely different. High altitude Moscatel (from a site near Valladolid) affected by botrytis (half of the crop) and on top of that the grapes are hung to dry for two weeks after harvest. Skin & stem maceration, no sulphur. This thing is peculiar.

Oct 17th, 2015Unexpectedly nice dessert wine to finish lunch. Expressive bouquet of raisins, tropical fruits, field flowers and buckwheat honey. Thanks to acidity, it feels fresh and is so quaffable. But my favourite part is acetonic finish. That case when VA are so well placed only to add complexity.

May 5th, 2018Crowd pleaser, too! Smelling it, I think of buckthorn. My friends thought of tamarind, though. I like that. My third bottle. What a fun drink! :-) By the way, store cool and in upright position. Lay it down and the cork might be pushed out. Or worse: friends had one bottle explode all over their (room temp) pantry. The store replaced their bottle, saying the know about the problem. Their display bottle has the cork pushed out about 2mm. On one of my bottles, I saw dried-up drips on the outside of the wax seal. So the store now told me to store it upright and cool.Doesn't seem like something you should store for longer than a few months. Who needs tertiary aromas with something that funky anyways!?
