Alexander Valley Vineyards
Reserve Alexander School Single Vineyard Selection Cabernet Sauvignon
Pretty color of deep ruby with a short reddish rim.
Earthy nose with black currants, black plums, black cherries, bell pepper, tobacco leaf, oak, light vanilla, pencil lead, black pepper, chocolates, green vegetables, dirt and herbs.
Full bodied with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, spices, licorice, light vanilla, tobacco leaf, peppercorn, coffee, earth and cola.
Long finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.
This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley in California. Showing nice complexity and mouthfeel. Tasty, rich and opulent.
This Single Vineyard is still very young and needs another five years in the bottle to mature. Will age nicely in the next 10 years.
Much more earthy and complex on the nose than on the palate, at this point. Although earthy, it is showing a lot of fruits. Very true to the terroir.
Good right out of the bottle and better after 2 hours of airtime.
Good by itself and better with food.
A great wine to pair with BBQ meats.
I paired it with meats and cheeses, and paired very nicely with the goat cheese.
100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged for 28 months in French Oak barrels (100% New). Limited production.
14.4% alcohol by volume.
92 points.
$50.

Trying a new find at the state store - better than I expected, not too fruity

Nov 24th, 2023Pulled this from my parents’ stash while over at their house for Easter lunch. Eucalyptus, clove, licorice, plums, and blackberries. Drank nicely and had rounded out well enough to pair nicely with some tender lamb.

Apr 21st, 2019When it snows you bake cookies and drink wine🍷🍪❄️. I never open a bottle of Alexander Valley I don’t like. You get anise on the nose. Rich dark fruits and spice. ♥️

Jan 29th, 2019Unfortunately I think my friend here was corked. My initial concerns about the state of the cork itself were temporarily dispelled because the nose revealed (what seemed to be) an in-tact wine. However, on the palate there were strong notes of chemicals and Clorox. Bummer.

Feb 10th, 2018Fruit forward, smooth cab with blackberry, leather, tobacco and spice. Certainly, age worthy and is drinking well now, but will be better in 5 years. The 2012 and 2013 vintages are better (esp the latter) but this 2008 is solid. Recommended!
