In a blind taste test of 5 Merlots this $7 bottle took down #2. I got red fruits and lightly spiced meat with medium tannins.

Sideways ruined Merlots for me but this wine isn't bad... I agree that it needs to breath for 20-30 minutes but one it opens up it has a great oaky smell and full bodied flavor.

Had with Brix chocolate. Smooth Merlot. Not too dry or bitter. Trader Joes.
